Ungheni Chisinau Gas Pipeline

Construction of a gas pipeline to connect the capital of Moldova and the country’s largest gas consumer to the Romanian gas network via Ungheni (Moldova) – Iasi (Romania) interconnection. The Ungheni-Chisinau pipeline will have a throughput capacity of 1.5-2.5bcm per annum. The estimated cost of the project is up to EUR 92 million and includes the following components:
(i) Pipeline with a diameter of 600 mm and a length between 113 and up to 133 km (depending on the routing option);
(ii) 5 Block Valve Stations occupying a fenced area of ca. 100 m2 each;
(iii) 2 Gas Pressure Regulation Stations; and
(iv) 6 Pigging facilities. EBRD and EIB are considering co-financing the project through sovereign loans to the Government of Moldova. The Project aims to enhance Moldova’s energy security by diversifying its gas supply sources. It will support the reform agenda in the gas sector through liberalisation and strengthening competition in compliance with Moldova’s undertakings to EU and Energy Community. As a result, it could enable other gas suppliers to enter the Moldovan market.
