Moldelectrica Transmission Network Rehabilitation Project

The aim of the project is to rehabilitate the existing internal power transmission network of Moldelectrica, the state owned Moldovan transmission system operator, in order to strengthen regional interconnections and develop trade in regional electricity. The project also aims to strengthen links with the European electricity system, which is a priority for Moldova as it will help cement its association with the Energy Community Treaty. These links will facilitate the integration of Moldova's transmission grid into the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity. The project includes the design and rehabilitation of a number of substations and transmission lines. This rehabilitation is expected to lead to improved security in the transmission network and energy efficiency. The replacement of the existing fleet of transformers is expected to lead to an efficiency gain of about 30%, reducing CO2 emissions by 15,000 to 20,000 tons of CO2 per year.
